MP-15 OVERVIEW

The MP-15 digital piano takes the entry-level MP-10 a step further with an easier to read and use control panel, a larger preset sound pallet, 64 of Kurzweil’s innovative 4-zone multi-instrument “Setups”, and an upgraded 4-speaker sound system.

At the center of the new user interface is a clear blue 16-character LCD making navigation easy. Along with the 16 dedicated sound and setup selection buttons the control panel provides quick access to your favorite sounds. A 2-track song sequencer lets you record up to two parts separately – record left and right hand parts independently, or record both parts of a duet accompanying yourself.

The MP-15 offers 128 hand-picked sounds from Kurzweil/s professional library including our 8 best acoustic pianos, 8 classic electric pianos, 8 organs, 16 synth and lead sounds, 24 orchestral instruments, 16 guitars, 16 drum & percussion kits, and more. “Setup Mode” combines many related sounds in up to 4 keyrange “zones” and 3 velocity-switched layers giving you the power of a conductor to command multiple instrument groups under the touch of your fingers.

The robust cabinet and enhanced sound system give the rich look and room-filling sound typically found only in our higher-end models.

Troubleshooting

Question:
How can I restore my MP15 to its factory defaults?

Answer:

Note: Performing a Hard Reset will delete all user-recorded songs and will restore all parameters to default values. This action cannot be undone.

There are two methods:

Function Menu Method:

  1. Press the Function button.
  2. Press either [Func -] (Rhythm) -OR- [Func +] (Voices/Setup) to move through the function menu (forwards and backwards) and locate the “Hard Reset?” parameter: Hard Reset ?
  3. Press [Next] and the display will show: Confirm ?
  4. Press [Next] again to perform the reset.

Quick Method:

Press and hold down the [Function] button for about 2 seconds. Doing so performs a Hard Reset directly, without confirmation.

Via either method, the unit will then erase its user memory, restore all factory settings and reboot.

Question:
I am having difficulties getting my Windows PC running Vista/Win7/8 to output MIDI to my Kurzweil via USB. Do I need to install a driver?

Answer:

No. The current line of Kurzweil products have a standard class-compliant USB-MIDI implementation. They do not require the installation of any additional drivers.

Some background to be aware of:

Microsoft has been steadily REMOVING MIDI FEATURES from Windows since Vista. In Windows XP, Microsoft provided a MIDI Mapper control panel which allowed end users to select a MIDI output device. Since Vista this has not been available. As such, certain apps (like Windows Media Player – WMP) can no longer play MIDI songs triggering external MIDI devices because WMP is only routed to the internal Microsoft GS Synthesizer.

This means the MIDI app you choose to use must natively offer its own built-in MIDI mapping abilities OR you could possibly install a 3rd party MIDI mapper whose purpose is to replace the MIDI routing abilities removed from Windows. Fortunately,
these days, most commercial MIDI software products for PC, such as Cubase or Cakewalk, have a configuration screen which includes the MIDI device mapping necessary to route to an external MIDI device.
