GENERAL

PROGRAM MODE

New Features:

• Programs can have a small text info box that is shown in the Program Selection page. It can be edited from the Output/Common 2 page or the Common page for KB3 programs. In Global mode the parameter Show Program Info lets you show this box or not. For more information see the updated Musician’s Guide

Fixes/Improvements:

• The Output page has been renamed Output/Common 2 as some parameters in that page are really Common parameters (that apply to all layers)
• KB3 drawbars are now shown even if Quick Access view is enabled
• Fixing rare issue of effects not loading after being bypassed in Program Edit mode
• Layer Summary page to show cascade layers can be accessed in Program Edit mode by pressing the first and second soft buttons simultaneously
• Control Sources show their number now and scrolling is linear through valid sources in each case

MULTI MODE

New Features:

• Multis can have a small text box that is shown in the Multi Selection page depending on the settings of this parameter. It can be edited from the Common page. In Global mode the parameter Show Multi Info lets you show this box and the Zone Multi information in different combinations. For more information see the updated Musician’s Guide.

Fixes/Improvements:

• If a zone is muted, do not send arp notes
• Zone Operations now inside the TOOLS button like in the K2700
• Fixing displays issues of the Multi Info and Zone Info
• New MAIN Velocity Mode option: Compressed

• When this is set, the velocity of the note ONs in that zone will be scaled into a compressed window of values. Similar to Fixed but with a user defined range above and below that fixed value.
• New Destination: Velocity Compressed Center (185) that defines the center of the window and can be assigned to any controller
• New Destination: Velocity Compressed Width(186) that defines the total width of the window. By default 32 but it can be assigned to any controller.

• Going to GLOBAL MODE from MULTI MODE is now possible without the system changing to PROGRAM MODE automatically (Improved from previous version)
• MIDI CC Sequencer: Relative edits in the MIDI CC parameter will go through available Parameters. Absolute edits (typing a number + ENTER) will allow any number to be entered.

SAMPLE EDIT

New Features:

• TRIM page shows the sample data (waveform) in order to help with the editing of the sample points ALT/LOS/SOS/EOS. It offers ZOOM and GAIN in order to visualize the details required to find the right sample points. It also helps finding Zero-Crossings to avoid clicks. Note that the waveform data itself can’t be modified.

GLOBAL MODE

New Features:

• MAIN 2: New QA Display parameter: Small/Large

Offering a better Large view of QA Display in Program and Multi Select pages. When QA Display is set to Large some other widgets in those pages will not be shown, while in QA View.

• MAIN 2 Force KB3 CCs [No/Yes]: If set to Yes the Continuous Controllers (Pedals) will go through no matter how you have them set up in the parameters page. This will help in cases where you might have trouble getting Swell and Expression working in CC1 or CC2. If set to No, it keeps the current way of working. If you don’t have any problem currently, just leave it as is.
• MAIN 2 Exp Pedal Override: KB3 Common page has the parameter Exp Pedal. You can override it here for all KB3 programs.
• MAIN 2 Continuous Controller Hardness (CC Hardness) [0:16]: Over time perhaps some of the sliders or knobs could loosen up a bit and small movements of the keyboard could trigger a small physical movement on those controllers. Then the controller would send a value of whatever position it currently has and this could lead to a sudden change of your sound. This is rare but possible. It could also happen if you have a flimsy stand on a stage that moves a lot while you are playing. With this new CC Hardness parameter you can avoid accidental small movements of a controller and only when the movement has gone over a relative threshold (the value of the parameter is the relative MIDI CC value threshold) it will start sending values. Set it to 0 and everything will be like it currently is, but if you are experiencing some unexpected jumps in your controllers, set it to a non zero value that works for you. A small value like 2 should help 99.9% of the few cases with this problem.
• MAIN: Show Multi Info. Multis can have a small text box that is shown in the Multi Selection page depending on the settings of this parameter. For more information see the updated Musician’s Guide.
• MAIN: Show Program Info. Programs can have a small text box that is shown in the Program Selection page depending on the settings of this parameter. For more information see the updated Musician’s Guide.
• MAIN 1: Show Controllers parameter has more options now:

No, Yes (No pedals) [default], All, Yes + Chords, All + Chords

We have added a simple chord recognition feature that can help players that aren’t too versed in harmony theory. It doesn’t try to cover all possible kinds of chords, just basic ones. To enable this feature, just select Yes + Chords or All + Chords.

• MAIN 1: New Xpose Buttons parameter with two options: Semitone, Octave

By default the Transpose buttons at the top left of the keyboard change the transposition by semitones. If this parameter is set to Octave, the Transpose buttons will change octaves.

The behavior of the Octave soft buttons in Program and Multi select pages will change accordingly.

This feature gives you not only more flexibility to how you want to change octaves when playing live but also lets you change octaves in Edit modes, which was not possible before, as the Octave +/- buttons were only shown in Select modes.

• MIDI - Transmit Transport has a new value: MIDI CC

Ableton Live users have been asking for this for a while. Some DAWs do not respond to Real Time nor MMC MIDI messages but rely on programmable MIDI CCs.

When Xmit Transport is set to MIDI CC the screen will show 6 new parameters, corresponding to the 6 transport buttons on the front panel. Those are the MIDI CCs that will be sent out when pressing those buttons. In Ableton Live you then have to press the MIDI button at the top right and add the mappings that you want.

• MIDI - Transmit Transport Mode is a new parameter that helps with the Transmit Transport parameter above. Now you do not have to change the GLOBAL MIDI Destination to decide what you want to do when you press the Transport buttons. While the MIDI Destination will still work, additionally, you can just set this parameter to Both, if you want both the local and the external messages to be sent, or just one of the two. For example, if you are controlling your DAW transport from your keyboard and are not using the internal sequencer, just set it to External.
• Voices page using graphics now instead of characters.

STORAGE MODE

Fixes/Improvements:

• Store - Advanced - Options - Add Deps now adds user Tuning Map as a Program dependent.
• After storing samples into a file some storage operations were not working properly

New Features:

• GLOBAL MAIN 2 Load Fill Limit [Continue/Stop]. This parameter substitutes the page that you used to have when Loading that explains this situation. Some people were confused about that page so we’ve made it a global parameter. When you are loading objects of multiple types (for example programs and multis) and you run out of user IDs for one of the types (for example multis), what do you want to do with the load process? Continue loading the objects of the rest of the types or stop the whole process? That’s what this parameter lets you decide.
• LOAD FILL page simplified by making the Object Map optional. If you want to see the map there is a button for that. If not, just select the ID and keep going. Some people were confused about the map and we hid it by default but it can be shown with one button press.

PROGRAM/KEYMAP/MULTI EDIT MODES

• Unifying how Compare works in Program, Multi and Keymap modes. When Compare is ON, an icon ( C ) will show at the header of the pages and you will be able to see the values in all the pages but not change them. That way you can toggle Compare On and Off on a particular page to see what values have changed.

• Fixing Stealer problems with heavy use of FM and Cascade notes altogether

• FILE - Loading WAVE and AIFF files:

• Vol and Alt Vol were set to 16 dB now to 0 dB

GENERAL

Fixes/Improvements:

• FM: Under rare circumstances (like when playing multiple layers of FM voices) you could end up in a situation with greatly reduced FM polyphony which could only be fixed with a reboot.
• FM: Fix for FM Operator FUN1 and FUN2 not being properly updated.
• FM: mono notes could "click" during transition from one note to the next.
• FM: some mono programs with multiple layers could result in notes not sounding.
• Stopping a Demo Song with the Transport buttons no longer causes problems.
• Fixes minor user interface issues.
• Switch pedal 1B was not mapped properly when using a global pedal override.

MULTI MODE

Features:

• MAIN: Channel Output Gain (-96 dB to 24 dB). It works the same as the Program Output Gain. Both Program and Multi Output Gains are added together. This allows you to control the Channel Output Gain in your multis if, for whatever reason, you don’t want to control the balance of your multis with MIDI Volume and Expression.
• COMMON: Output Gain (-96 dB to 24 dB). Same as above but for all channels.

Fixes/Improvements:

• MAIN: Zone Name. If a user name is used, the way to revert to using the Program Name automatically is to simply edit the user name and delete all the characters.
• PC3 Global Arp parameter (deprecated) was not being disabled when importing PC3 multis

PROGRAM MODE

Features:

• Mute/Solo/FX Bypass actions will now show an Icon in the page header indicating the status. Before the only way to know if any of those functions were active was to see their soft buttons (they changed color) but that required pressing the “MORE” button multiple times.

Fixes/Improvements:

• MODS: Channel Count (ChanCnt) now clips at 128 voices. Previously, it was failing when surpassing that number.
• ALG DSP: Some default values for some particular blocks were displaying incorrectly. For example, a negative frequency value. This was just a display issue and has been fixed.
• Parameters like Output Gain are now drawn in a different color if value > 0 dB.
• ARP: When Velocity Mode is set to Pattern, the selected velocity pattern is now properly loaded.
• Previously, data could get corrupted when trying to exceed the limit of VAST parameters (39). This has now been fixed.

GLOBAL MODE

Features:

• OBJECTS - Add Dependents: Samples are now properly included as Keymap dependents.
• OBJECTS - Add Dependents: Audio Input FX Chains are now properly included as Multi dependents.
• OBJECTS - Add Dependents: The number of dependents added is now correctly reported. Previously, if an object was a dependent of two objects, it would have been counted twice.
• OBJECTS - OPTIONS: New parameter Object Safe Mode (Yes/No). This determines how the Add Dependents button works. If set to ‘No’ the button behaves the same as it currently does: It selects all the dependents of the selected objects. If set to ‘Yes’, the system will NOT select objects that are dependents of the selected object(s) and that are also dependents of non-selected objects. For example, take a user multi that is using two user programs A and B, but Program B is also being used by another multi. If you have selected the multi and you press ADD DEPS button, and Object Safe Mode is set to ‘No’, both programs A and B will get added to the list of selected objects. If, on the other hand, Object Safe Mode is set to ‘Yes’, then only program A will be added to the list of selected objects and, therefore, Program B will be left unselected so as not to break the other multi(s) that are using that program. This parameter is mainly intended to be set to ‘Yes’ for safer DELETE operations.

SAMPLE EDIT MODE

• Under special circumstances when multi-samples had a large number of samples the keyboard was silent in this mode.
• Release and Decay rate can now each be edited with a quarter of a dB resolution. Before it was by whole dBs.

KEYMAP EDIT MODE

• Volume adjust: When entering a value via numeric entry the value was halved after pressing the ENTER button. Now it works as expected.

Fixes/Improvements:

• PREVIEW: Clearing the list of previously selected samples after performing a Preview. It was causing multiple extra preview programs/keymaps.
• The following bug fix from version 1.06 was causing worse FX problems than it was fixing and we have removed it for now.

• MAIN 1 Page: FX Mode: Fixed a problem with the FX Mode "Multitrack" setting. Previously, when "Multitrack" was selected, receiving external Program Change messages in Program Mode could cause Aux FX sends to stop working for some Channels. Note: When using Program Mode for receiving Multi Channel MIDI from an external sequencer, FX Mode should always be set to "Multitrack" to ensure that FX Chains load consistently across multiple channels. When using Program Mode for playing only a single channel at a time, FX Mode should be set to "Performance" to reduce FX interruptions when changing Programs on the currently selected channel (in this case, FX on other channels may not be loaded).

MULTI MODE

Fixes/Improvements:

• A switch pedal could have sent the wrong controller the first time pressed if it was set to Toggle but in the previously loaded multi, that same pedal in the same zone, was set to Momentary.

PROGRAM MODE

Fixes/Improvements:

• When changing the VIEW if a KB3 Organ Program is selected the KB3 Drawbar display is now correctly displayed.
• If a drawbar has an entry value of NONE in the Parameters page and, therefore, does not cause a program edit when moved (NOTE: It still makes its function) now we show a red outline in the drawbar graphic and the drawbar will move accordingly to the controller movement, instead of the wrong “-128” text that was shown before.
• Program Edit: When the Arp is set to Classic Mode and a Shift Pattern is selected, the Shift Limit is properly shown on the page now.
• Program Edit: Intonation Table Edit: Typing 0 + ENTER working now

• FILE: LOAD: Improved importing Setups (Multis) from PC3 files. Fixed problems where in some cases some Zones could have the wrong Program, MIDI Channel, and Zone Mute switch assignment.
• FILE: STORE: When storing a large Sample in chunks, the display now shows the Sample name.
• SAMPLES Page: Fixed a problem with the Sample Preview function. Previously some key ranges could be created with the wrong range if a multisample contained many root notes.
• SAMPLES Page: Fixed a problem with the Sample Join function. Previously there could be problems when joining more than 128 samples. Now up to 256 samples can be joined.
• SAMPLES: JOIN: The Navigation Up/Down buttons can now be used to scroll through the Sample list.

MULTI MODE:

Features:

• When QA view is selected, you can now simultaneously press the CHANNEL Up/Down buttons to select a QA bank by typing in a bank number followed by the ENTER button.

Fixes/Improvements:

• Fixed a problem that was causing the same Controller Info to be shown for all Zones when moving a Controller. Now Controller Info is correctly shown for each Zone.
• Fixed a problem that could prevent Riffs from Releasing (stopping) in some cases when triggered by keys with legato fingering.
• Fixed a problem with Half Damper pedals and Zone muting. Previously, for Zones using Programs with Half Damper pedal control enabled (such as factory Piano Programs), notes held with the pedal could continue sustaining if the pedal was released after the Zone was muted.
• Multi Edit: Main Page: Transpose range increased from +/-88 to +/-127.
• Multi Edit: CONTROLS Page: Switch Pedals: Fixed a problem with Half Damper Sustain pedals being used for Toggled switch functions (such as Zone Mute). Previously too many values were sent and the switch would behave unpredictably. Now Half Damper pedals will behave like standard switch pedals when Type is set to Toggled.
• Multi Edit: CONTROLS Page: Destinations 136 Program Inc, 137 Program Dec, 139 Multi Inc, and 140 Multi Dec were previously only sent from active Zones. Now these destinations can be sent from Muted Zones as well.
• Multi Edit: CONTROLS Page: Ribbon: Fixed a problem that was causing some common parameters (Configuration, Spring, and Center) to display the current Zone number when selected. Now these parameters display "All Zones" to indicate that they are common to all Zones.
• Multi Edit: FX Page: Fixed a problem with changing the Aux FX Channel (AuxFX Ch parameter). Previously, in some cases the selected Aux FX Channel was not applied until the Multi was saved and reselected. Now changing the Aux FX Channel will always apply the change immediately.
• Fixed a rare problem where the Sustain pedal sometimes did not work on the first press, if the pedal was pressed while simultaneously selecting a Multi. (Previously, this could happen if switching between two Multis where the same channel was set to two different MIDI destinations in each Multi).

PROGRAM MODE:

Features:

• When QA view is selected, you can now simultaneously press the CHANNEL Up/Down buttons to select a QA bank by typing in a bank number followed by the ENTER button.

Fixes/Improvements:

• When navigating from a KB3 Organ Program to a VAST Organ Program, the KB3 Drawbar display is now correctly hidden.
• Program Edit: Keymap Edit: Fixed a problem with the NEWRNG and ASSIGN soft button functions, previously these were not working correctly.
• Program Edit: LAYER Page: Fixed a problem with the Layer Delay parameters. Previously, a layer would not produce sound if Layer Delay was applied in combination with the ALG Page Alt Input feature (also known as Cascade Mode).
• Changing channels or modes will respect the state of the Program arpeggiator.
• In rare occasions, when a layer’s alg id was larger than 256, some of the filters were not sounding correctly until re-selected.

SONG MODE:

Fixes/Improvements:

• Increased maximum number of events per song from 110,000 to 3,520,000.
• Fixed an FX problem for Programs with an Insert FX Chain set to "0 None". Previously, in some cases this could prevent the Program's Aux FX send from working correctly.
• FILTER Page: Playback Filter: Extended the "MIDI CC" field for proper display of values.

GENERAL:

Fixes/Improvements:

• FX Edit: Fixed panning for FX preset boxes 366 and 367. Previously, signals panned to the right were not heard.
• FX Edit: Fixed a crash that could occur on the MODs 1 Page when changing the Box parameter.
• Fixed a problem that was causing an "Expected Size" error message when editing Programs with SoundTower Apps.
• Fixed a problem where Note Off messages from the Arpeggiator were going to all MIDI Destinations. Now they only go to the selected Global MIDI Destination.
• In Program and Multi Mode, fixed a problem where the Quick Access Bank name could be obscured when selecting Quick Access view with the VIEW soft button.

• Objects Page: QA BANKS: The SAVE button now works properly for saving a User QA Bank to a different ID.
• Storage Page: LOAD: Kurzweil files named with more than 8 characters can now be opened with the OPEN soft button.
• Storage Page: LOAD: When a MIDI file is selected, the OPEN soft button is now hidden. MIDI files can be loaded with the FILL soft button.
• Storage Page: LOAD: Fixed a problem with loading some PC3 and PC3K Setups (Multis). Previously some Zones could be set to the wrong channel.
• Fixed a crash that could happen in Global Mode when pressing a Switch Pedal that has Override set to Quick Access Inc/Dec.

MULTI MODE:

Features:

• Multi Edit: ARP: Added the Sync To parameter, which allows selecting a specific Riff, Song or Arp to sync to.

Fixes/Improvements:

• Riffs that have Trigger Range and Release Range set to the same key range can now be played with legato fingering, which is useful for Riffs that have Transpose set to On. For example, if you were to hold down the A key to play a Riff, then hold down the B key to transpose the Riff, then release the A key, previously releasing the A key would stop the transposed Riff being played by the B key. Now with these settings a transposed Riff will continue to play until the last key that triggered it is released.
• Zone Info: When the Global Mode Show Zone Info parameter is set to Yes, Zone Info in Multi Mode now updates the Zone On indicator when changing Zone Status (Muted/Active) from a pedal assignment.
• Zone Info: When the Global Mode Show Zone Info is set to Yes, Zone Info in Multi Mode now properly displays 4 digit Program ID numbers in all cases. Previously, some 4 digit numbers could be cut off.
• When recording into Song Mode from Multi Mode, recordings can now be reviewed before saving on the Save New Recording page.
• Multi Edit: Overview Page: Fixed a problem with navigation when Exit Values are being displayed on the Overview page.
• Multi Edit: Fixed a problem that could cause controls to become unresponsive when changing pages while holding the ENTER button.
• Multi Edit: Controls Page: Ribbon: Fixed a problem that was causing the Ribbon Destination parameter to show some invalid destinations.
• Multi Edit: Controls Page: Ribbon: When the Ribbon Configuration is set to 3 Sections, the Destination for each section can now be seen in all cases.

PROGRAM MODE:

Fixes/Improvements:

• Fixed a problem where KB3 Drawbar graphics could be shown for VAST Programs after deleting a KB3 Program.
• Program Edit: KB3 Programs: Drawbars Page: When viewing the Drawbars page and moving a slider, the Vol parameter now gets updated in real time.
• Program Edit: Fixed a crash that could occur when deleting a Layer used as an Alt Input for another Layer.

GLOBAL MODE:

Features:

• MAIN 1: Added the Audio In Gate parameter. The rear panel AUDIO IN jacks have a noise gate that prevents low level system noise from being heard in some cases (such as when nothing is plugged into these jacks, or when something is plugged in but not being used). In previous OS versions, the noise gate was always enabled. The Audio In Gate parameter can be used to turn the noise gate On or Off. Setting Audio In Gate to Off is useful for monitoring signals with a wide dynamic range (such as guitar). For example, when Audio In Gate is set to On, guitar notes may be muted before the note has fully decayed to silence. To prevent the unwanted muting of low level signals, set Audio In Gate to Off. If the AUDIO IN jacks are not being used for low level signals, set Audio In Gate to On to prevent extra system noise. Note: When loading a backup file of user objects containing a Master Table created with a previous software release, the Audio In Gate parameter will be set to Off. If the AUDIO IN jacks are not being used, set Audio In Gate to On to prevent extra system noise.
• MIDI: Added the Receive Transport and Xmit Transport parameters (replacing the Receive MMC parameter). Use these parameters to enable or disable receiving and sending of System Real-Time and MMC (MIDI Machine Control) Play and Stop transport messages to/from the PC4's MIDI or USB ports. This allows you to use an external sequencer sending System Real-Time or MMC messages to start or stop the currently selected song in PC4's Song Mode, or to use the PC4's front panel Play and Stop buttons to start or stop an external sequencer (if it is able to receive these messages).
• MIDI: Added the Xmit Velocity Map parameter. The Xmit Velocity Map parameter allows you to select a velocity map for MIDI notes transmitted from the USB or MIDI Out ports. This is useful for adjusting the overall velocity sensitivity for MIDI notes sent to external MIDI instruments. Different maps generate different MIDI velocity values for the same physical key strike velocity. The default map (Linear) provides the widest range of velocity expression. The Light and Hard maps make it increasingly easier or harder to produce high MIDI velocity values for the same key strike velocity (with Light3 being the easiest, Hard3 being the hardest). See the PC4 Musician's Guide for a description of each map.

• FILE / LOAD: Fixed a problem with PC3K and PC3LE Setups (Multis) loaded from P3K and PLE files, which was causing these Multis to have incorrect settings. • SAMPLES: Added the JOIN function, which can be used to combine multiple User Sample roots into a single multi-sample object. This is useful for reducing the number of User Sample objects in the system when using groups of many User Sample roots for one instrument sound. Multi-sample objects contain multiple Sample roots, but use only one object ID number. After joining Samples, you are presented with an option to automatically relink all Keymaps which use the Samples, so that the Keymaps will use the new joined sample ID.

• Factory QA Banks 7-16 have been renumbered and renamed as Banks 6-15, (previously Bank 6 was missing). Bank 16 is now empty.

This fixes a problem where small changes in tuning could cause the sample selection to change unnecessarily. For pitched programs, tuning changes will sound more natural. For drum programs, this prevents a problem where small tuning changes could cause a different drum sample to play.
• The front panel Transpose buttons now update their LEDs more quickly when pressed.
• The front panel Tap Tempo button now blinks at the set tempo when tapped.
• Fixed a problem with voice allocation that could prevent new notes from stealing old voices in rare circumstances.
