System Update Instructions for the SP4

All references to the "SP4" refer equally to the SP4-8, SPS4-8, SP4-7 and SP76II unless otherwise noted.

REQUIREMENTS:

Computer (Mac or PC) with USB port + USB cable.

UPDATE PROCEDURE:

!! Before updating, be sure to back up any custom programming!!

If unfamiliar with backing up your data, please see the "Saving User Data (BackUp)" in our online KnowledgeBase and/or refer to the SP4 Musician's Guide, Chpt. 9 "Global Mode" (The "SaveAll?" Dialogue) for details.

The software updating procedure is detailed in Chpt. 10 of the SP4 Musician's Guide but is repeated below for your convenience:

  1. Obtain the latest system updates.

    - Go to Downloads Section on our site.
    - Select your model (either SP4-7/SP76II, SP4-8 or SPS4-8)
    - Under O/S "Updates" download the current update package.

    (Be sure to carefully read through the included Release Notes.)

  2. Power the SP4 OFF.

  3. Connect the SP4 to your computer with a USB cable.

  4. Enter System Mode:

    Press/Hold the SHIFT button while you turn the SP4 ON.
    Release the SHIFT button once you see the scrolling title screen:

    SP4 bootloader vX.XX

    You will next see:

    Run SP4_SP76II

    OR

    Run SP4_8

    OR

    Run SPS4_8

    ...pursuant to your specific model. At the same time, the SP4 will appear as a temporary, removable USB drive/device on your computer, similarly named.

  5. Press Chan / Param Down once. The SP4 will display:

    Update Software

  6. Press Next/+ once. The SP4 will display:

    Update

  7. Press Next/+ again. A scrolling message will ask you to:

    Copy file to mounted drive on PC and click NEXT

  8. Copy the .KUF update file.

    Following the above prompt, on your computer, copy (drag/drop) the .KUF file to the SP4 removable drive/device.

    Once the file is finished copying, "Safely Remove", "Unmount" or "Eject" the removable SP4 drive/device from your computer.

  9. Press Next/+ on your SP4. The SP4 will display:

    Updating...

    This step will take a minute or two to complete. When finished the SP4 will display:

    Done

  10. Power the unit off and back on normally.

    The unit will reboot to normal operating mode and is ready for use.

  11. Confirm the update was successful:

    Once powered back up, go to GLOBAL mode, press the Chan/Param Down once. Confirm you see the following (scrolling):

    OS: 2.40.1527 Obj: 2.11.0

    If for some reason the install did not complete properly, simply repeat from the beginning.
