The Kurzweil is capable of using keymaps which can switch samples based on velocity, called velocity switching keymaps.

However, it is not possible to start with a regular keymap and add velocity switching to it - you must instead start out with a velocity switching keymap and edit it to include the samples that you want.

In ROM, we have only provided dual level (keymaps 2, 10, 54, and 178) and triple level (keymaps 164, 165, & 166) switching keymaps.

This file provides several other keymaps which allow up to 8 levels of velocity switching. The switching is based on the eight musical dynamic levels (ppp, pp, p, mp, mf, f, ff, fff) which are associated with specific velocity values according to your currently selected velocity map.

The keymap name will give you an indication of the number of levels of switching, plus where the switches are. For instance, KM5 13578 indicates that it is a 5 level switching keymap and that the levels are ppp-pp, p-mp, mf-f, ff, and fff.

Once you are in the keymap editor, the channel bank buttons will switch you between levels, and the current level is shown on the top line of the display. Each level is independent and can therefore have any samples assigned to any range of keys (the key ranges dont have to be the same on each level).
