Mark 12/152 Software Version 1.3

This zipped archive contains two files. The file M12E130.KOS contains version 1.3 of the Mark 12 operating system. The file M12S130.KOS contains version 1.3 of the Mark 12 preset objects. The following instructions will tell you how to install these files into your Mark 12/152.

Before installing you should save to disk all songs, styles, organ settings, panel memories, and other objects that you have stored in the Mark 12/152. If you are not certain how to save these items to disk, consult your manual.

Installation Instructions:

1. Copy the file M12E130.KOS onto a DOS formatted floppy disk. If you have a Mac, you can erase a disk in DOS format provided you have the proper software (such as PC Exchange, or other programs).

2. Copy the file M12S130.KOS onto another DOS formatted floppy. (You need two floppies because both files won't fit onto a single disk.)

3. On the Mark 12/152, hold down Key Start, Key Stop and Layer Volumes while turning on the power switch. Wait until the message "Waking up scanner" appears in the display. Release the buttons. You should now be in a special menu called the Boot Block.

4. Now insert the floppy disk with the M12E130.KOS file into the disk drive in the Mark 12/152.

5. The menu will have five choices. Press the button under Install File. The display will say "Install all KOS files on disk". Press OK. The display will then say "Ready to install KOS file into ROM". Press OK again. The Mark 12/152 will install the file and return to the Boot Loader menu.

6. Now insert the floppy disk with the M12S130.KOS file into the disk drive in the Mark 12/152. Repeat step 5.

7. Press the button under Run System. This starts up the new software.

8. Once the Mark 12/152 has booted up, you should press the MIDI/Prefs button and select Hard Reset.

That's it - your unit is now running the new software.

Feature enhancements in version 1.2 and 1.3

A Cancel option has been added to LOAD ALL screen in the Disk Mode,

On the Metronome menu, you can choose the Metronome Key by playing a note on the keyboard (once you have selected the Metronome Key parameter).

In the Arpeggiator Menu, you can set the Low Key and Hi Key parameters by first selecting the parameter and then striking a note on the keyboard.

When you choose a panel memory, its LED will now light up.

You can now use the Drums slider to set the volume for a track in a song. When you are in the Track Edit menu, moving the slider will change the volume of your current track.

You can now disable MIDI channels during Disk Play by pressing the appropriate track button.

The screen shows the type of song being loaded when the load is happening (i.e. MIDI Type 0, Kurzweil, etc.)

In menu mode, if the SRS button is pressed and SRS was NOT turned on, SRS will now turn on.

If the recorder section is turned off, and a Song button is pressed, this will now turn on the recorder section (just like selecting a style in the Style section).

A new Drum demo has been added. When you are in Demo Mode, the Drum button now lights up. Pressing it will select the demo.

version 1.30

Octave shift (see p. 21)

The Octave Shift button now functions similarly to other Mark 152/12 buttons. Press the button once to turn on the shift mode; the LED in the button lights to indicate this. The two halves of the keyboard will be shifted as described in the manual. To change the extent of the shifts, press Menu after activating the octave shift. The menu described in the manual will be shown, and you can adjust the two parts of the shift as desired.

Harmony feature (see p. 36)

The Harmony feature has been enhanced. The menus for harmony type selection now feature three harmony types per page. You can move between the pages with the Next button, as in other menus. The fourth page shows two parameters to modify the Harmony function: Replay and Level. Replay refers to the ability of the Mark 152/12 to replay the harmonized notes when the chord changes, without actually restriking the notes. This is the default. If you prefer to change chords with no replay, choose this parameter and select Off as its value. The Level parameter allows you to adjust the volume of the harmonized notes relative to the played note.

Disk play channel mutes (see p. 52)

When a song is played directly from a diskette, the Mark 152/12 allows you to mute individual channels of music. The Track LEDs in the recorder section are lit in green when the song starts to play. Pressing any button will mute all MIDI sounds on the associated channel, and the LED will flash red. The sound can be restored by pressing the button again.

Panel memory reset (see p. 65)

You can reset the Mark 152/12 back to its default operating state by pressing and holding the Panel 1 button, and then pressing the Grand Piano button. All the options that are generally stored in a panel memory will be restored to the power-on defaults: sounds, auto-accompaniment, and so on. This gives you a convenient way to return the Mark 152/12 to a known state without having to reset the entire instrument.
