System Update Instructions for the PC3 OS v2.03

UPDATE METHODS:

The PC3 can be updated by one of two methods:


UPDATE PROCEDURE:

!! Before updating, be sure to back up any custom programming as user memory will be erased in the process!!

If unfamiliar with the process, please see the following link (or your manual) for details: "Backing Up the Entire User Memory"

  1. Obtain the latest system updates.

    - Go to PC3 Downloads Section on our site.
    - Under O/S "Updates" download the current update package.
    (Be sure to carefully read through the included Release Notes.)

  2. If using USB: connect a USB cable between the PC3 and your computer now.

  3. Enter the Bootloader.

    Power the PC3 OFF. Press and hold the EXIT button while you power-up the PC3. Release the EXIT button when the Boot Loader's menu of options appears on the screen:

                       RUN   UPDATE   RUN     SYSTEM   FILE
                       PC3   IMAGE    DIAGS   RESET    UTILITIES
    

    You will use the various "soft buttons" under the screen to control the update process.

    If using USB: a virtual USB drive will appear on your computer desktop representing the PC3.

  4. Copy the update file(s):

    If using xD: Copy all 3 system files to your xD card now: "PC3FT063.BIN", "PC3OS203.BIN" and "PC3OB203.PC3" and then insert the xD card into your PC3.

    If using USB: Copy just the PC3 File System Utility (PC3FT063.BIN) to the USB Desktop Drive on your computer.

  5. Press FILE UTILITIES:
                       RUN   UPDATE   RUN     SYSTEM   FILE
                       PC3   IMAGE    DIAGS   RESET    UTILITIES
    

  6. Press EXEC from file:
                       EXEC   COPY    SAVE            
                       from   from    to      FORMAT  
                       file   ext     ext     card     <back>
    

  7. Choose an external device: Depending on your connections, you may be asked to select between xD Card - or- USB port. If prompted, choose accordingly.
                       Choose an external device:
    				
    				
                            Card   USB port            CANCEL
  8. Using the data wheel , select the PC3FT063.BIN file (asterisk ∗ placed next to selection):
    		   Choose a file to execute:
                      ∗  PC3FT063.BIN    147K bytes           
                         
    
                     CHOOSE  DOWN   UP                 CANCEL
    			
  9. Press CHOOSE:
    		   Choose a file to execute:
                      ∗  PC3FT063.BIN    147K bytes           
                         
    
                     CHOOSE  DOWN   UP                 CANCEL
    			

    You will briefly see a "Loading" message appear followed by the File System Utility Menu (depicted below). If installing by USB, your computer may issue a "device removal" notification. You can ignore it.

  10. Press FORMAT FLASH:
    	           PC3 File System Utility 0.63.11214
    		  
    		   File system set up (52224Kb free)
    			
                     UPDATE  FORMAT  SETUP   COPY    FILE
                     IMAGE   FLASH   SYSTEM  FILES   UTILS    QUIT
    
  11. PRESS FORMAT to confirm:
    	         *** Formatting internal file system ***
    	
    		     All files will be deleted!
    		     Are you sure?
    		
    		   FORMAT   CANCEL

    You will briefly see a message displaying "Formatting internal file system". Followed by "File System Formatted".

  12. If using USB: Copy BOTH the PC3 OS File (PC3OS203.BIN) and Objects File (PC3OB203.PC3) to the USB Desktop Drive on your computer.

  13. Press UPDATE IMAGE:
    	           PC3 File System Utility 0.63.11214
    		  
    		   File system set up (63872Kb free)

  14. Press MAIN IMAGE:

  16. Using the data wheel , select the O/S file (PC3OS203.BIN) (asterisk ∗ placed next to selection):
    		   Choose a file to load:
    		     PC3OB203.PC3    7767K bytes
                      ∗  PC3OS203.BIN    3645K bytes           
                         
    
                     CHOOSE  OPEN   PARENT             CANCEL
    			
  17. Press CHOOSE:
    		   Choose a file to load:
    		     PC3OB203.PC3    7767K bytes
                      ∗  PC3OS203.BIN    3645K bytes
    
                     CHOOSE  OPEN   PARENT             CANCEL
    			

    You will briefly see a message indicating "Copying Image..."

  18. Press OK:
                      Bootable system built.
    		  New module installed
    		
    		 OK
  19. Press UPDATE IMAGE:
    	           PC3 File System Utility 0.63.11214
    		  
    		   File system set up (60288Kb free)
    			
                     UPDATE  FORMAT  SETUP   COPY    FILE

  20. Press MAIN OBJECT:
                       What module do you want to update?

  22. Using the data wheel , select the OBJECT file (PC3OB209.PC3) (asterisk ∗ placed next to selection):
    		   Choose a file to load:
    		  ∗  PC3OB203.PC3    7767K bytes
                         PC3OS203.BIN    3645K bytes           
    
    
                     CHOOSE  OPEN   PARENT             CANCEL
    			
  23. Press CHOOSE:
    		   Choose a file to load:
    		  ∗  PC3OB203.PC3    7767K bytes
                         PC3OS203.BIN    3645K bytes           
    
                     CHOOSE  OPEN   PARENT             CANCEL
    			

    You will briefly see a message indicating "Copying object datafile..."

  24. Press OK:
                      Copying object datafile...done
    		  New module installed
    		
    		 OK
  25. Press Quit
    	           PC3 File System Utility 0.63.11214
    		  
    		   File system set up (52720Kb free)
    			
                     UPDATE  FORMAT  SETUP   COPY    FILE
                     IMAGE   FLASH   SYSTEM  FILES   UTILS    QUIT
    

    If installing by USB, your computer may issue a "device removal" notification. You can ignore it.

  26. Press <back>:
                       EXEC   COPY    SAVE            
                       from   from    to      FORMAT  
                       file   ext     ext     card           <back>
    
  27. Press RUN PC3
                       RUN   UPDATE   RUN     SYSTEM   FILE
                       PC3   IMAGE    DIAGS   RESET    UTILITIES
    

    The PC3 will reboot to normal operating mode and is ready for use.

  28. Confirm the update was installed correctly: Once powered back up, go to MASTER mode, press the OBJECT menu soft button. Confirm you see the following:
                       Object Ver  : 2.03.1
                       O/S Version : 2.03.16964 
    			

    If for some reason the install did not complete properly, simply power off and repeat from the beginning (step 3).
