K2500 Objects Compatibility Files for the K2661

PURPOSE:

The OBJKB403.K25 (Base Objects) and OBJKP403.K26 (Stereo Piano ROM Objects) files are provided for K2661 users who need backward compatibility with their sequences/setups that were created using a K2500. The OBJKB403.K25 and OBJKP403.K26 files contain all the original K2500 preset Factory Objects.

By loading these files you will be able to convert material created using the original K2500 Base Object set into files that will contain all the necessary "older" dependent objects and then be playable in the K2661 without using the OBJKB403.K25 and OBJKP403.K26 files repeatedly. i.e. this is a one time conversion.

This is simply a matter of creating new versions of your original file(s) so that the original ROM preset programs used by that song/setup are now saved as dependent RAM programs along with the song/setup itself. Instructions on how to do this are detailed below.

LOADING AND CONVERSION INSTRUCTIONS:

Note: The following procedure will erase all of your user RAM. Please be sure to back up on to disk any custom data you wish to save before proceeding.

    Compatibility File Installation

  1. Copy the OBJKB403.K25 and OBJKP403.K26 files to a Smart Media Card (or SCSI drive) from your computer.
  2. Turn on K2661
  3. Press Disk
  4. Insert the Smart Media Card into the K26
  5. Select SMedia as the "Current Disk"
  6. Press [Load].
  7. Select the file OBJKB403.K25.
  8. Press [OK]
  9. At the "Load this file as:" prompt, scroll down the list and choose Everything.
  10. Select [Overwrite] for the loading method.
  11. When the file completes loading, press [Load] again, and now select the OBJKP403.K26 file.
  12. At the "Load this file as:" prompt, choose the 700's Bank.
  13. Select [Merge] for the Loading method.

    What you have now done is load in all of the original K25 preset programs and setups into their original locations. This temporarily "covers up" the newer K2661 presets. But don't worry, once you are finished with the conversion process, you will get the K2661 factory presets back.

    Conversion of K2500 Songs/Setups

  14. Now load in any K2500 based Song/Setup files that you wish to convert. You should choose an empty bank to load these files into.

  15. Save the Song(s)/Setup(s) back to disk. Answer [Yes] to the "Save Dependent Objects?" question. The K2661 will save the Songs/Setups along with any RAM object dependents (ie the conversion file objects). It is a good idea to RENAME these new converted files so as to keep copies of your originals. i.e do NOT replace the original K25 based files unless you are certain you no longer need the originals.

    If you have a large number of Songs/Setups to convert and are running out of memory, simply load up a few Songs/Setups at a time, save them back to disk with Dependents, then load the next set of Songs/Setups back into the same bank or banks using Overwrite. As long as you do not load any objects into the 0s, 100s, or 700s, bank, you won't have any problems with accidentally erasing the K25 conversion programs.

  16. Once you're finished converting the Song(s)/Setup(s), go to Master Mode, select [Delete], and scroll down to Everything to clear out the RAM and "restore" your K2661 factory presets.

  17. Now you can load up those newly "converted" Song(s)/Setup(s) files and they will play using all the correct programs. The Program Change messages in the songs/setups are automatically adjusted to select the programs now included in the file, no matter which ID numbers those programs are now located at.
