"Kurzweil has been my choice ever since I was 15 when my dad took me to buy my first pro keyboard. I saw a poster on the wall of Billy Joel with the PC88mx and that was it. We walked out with the keyboard AND the poster. Since then, my Kurzweil keyboards have been on countless tours, on 3 continents, 10 countries and more cities than I can count. They have kept me creative and inspired through the years, offering me the best that a keyboard can be with its technical specs, ease of use, authentic sounds and feel - and in return, demanding that I be the same. That's what I love about Kurzweil - always the best, inspiring me to be the best."
At the ripe old age of 12, Emiko had already "retired" from classical music to begin making her mark in pop music. Having played piano since she was two and half, Emiko was transforming from classical piano prodigy to rock and roll starlet. Flash forward to 2010 when she was signed to a worldwide record deal by Famous Records/Universal Music Group (dist) and released her first single on the label, "7 Steps Away." One can definitely say that Emiko has earned the title of "lifer" in the music industry.
A three time featured performer of the Songwriters Hall of Fame New Writers Showcases, Emiko has graced the pages of Billboard Magazine, FM Sound, Music Connection, and other mainstream music publications. As an award winning songwriter with credits under her belt for SONY/ATV, she hit the studio with Grammy nominated, multi-platinum selling producer Tommy Faragher before leaving on a world tour encompassing Asia, Europe and the US. Believing that performing is just as important as recording, Emiko's 2009/10 world tour had her touring everywhere from the US to Japan and Europe. Some tour highlights included the Steelbridge Song Festival with Jackson Browne, the Sun Valley Pavilion at Acoustic Weekend with Keb Mo', showcasing at Japan Music Week and The 2009 Special Olympic World Winter Games.
Emiko's new album comes on the heels of two EP releases and the critical success of her debut album "Here Lies Tinkerbell," all of which have had #1 chart success in the UK and Japan. And as if her own writing, recording, and record deal wasn't enough, she is also half of The May - December Project, with duo co-writer, legendary drummer, Liberty DeVitto (a la Billy Joel, Meat Loaf, Elton John, Carly Simon, etc).
The world around Emiko is also starting to take notice of her savvy business mind. In July of 2008, Emiko was featured in Young Working Woman as one of New York's most successful entrepreneurial women in business. 2009 and 2010 saw Emiko being named to the Board of Directors for the Center for Arts and Education in Caldwell, ID, giving a keynote speech in both English and Japanese at the first ever Japan Music Week in Tokyo and appearing as a featured lecturer and showcase artist at the Vancouver Island Music Business Conference in June, 2009 and being asked back for June of 2010. Emiko is the president and founder of The 6412 Ltd., an artist development and management consulting company for up and coming artists in the music industry. Additionally, she is the founder and director of the Asian American Music Industry Association (AAMIA) - an organization that is dedicated to bridging the gap between Asia and the Western World in today's popular music industry. With these two businesses under her belt, Emiko has been invited to lecture and participate as a music industry expert at various music festivals, panels, and conferences such as Japan Music Week, The Vancouver Island Music Business Conference, Canadian Music Week, and more.
Currently, Emiko makes her home between New York, London and Tokyo - "...really, home is wherever the music takes me!" she says. Hard at work in the studio on her next album, it can surely be said that Emiko is one step closer to her favorite saying, "If there's life on Mars, they'll buy my album!"
